FAIR SAFETY POSTER CONTEST

1.	Only one poster may be submitted per student. Students must be in age group 8-11, 12-14, or 15-18 as of June 1, of current year and be an OLEY FAIR area resident (see page 10, rule 3 of Oley Valley Community Fair Book).
2.	The poster size must be 14-1/2x22 inches, equivalent one half of a standard poster board. Other sizes will not be accepted for judging.
3.	The theme for the poster is "Food Safety On the Fairgrounds". Students should use this theme on their poster. The poster contest primary theme must pertain to Food Safety at the Fairgrounds, some example theme ideas are the following: 1) Hand washing practices for food handlers; 2) Proper storage and temperature control of food products and condiments; 3) Use of sanitizers.
4.	Posters will be judged on the use of the theme, visual appearance and creativity in relation to the exhibitor's age.
5.	Entries will be accepted Monday or Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in the Oley Valley Fair Centre. Entries may be removed at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Decorated Broom Contest

1.	Any type of broom can be used (commercially manufactured or homemade). The broom can be dressed with scarves, hats, string, maps, vines, leaves, sunglasses, pinecones, felt cut-outs and buttons, just to name a few. Use your imagination to create a character or animal using the theme “Star Struck”.
2.	Size not to exceed 3’ wide and 6’ high and must be free standing.
3.	No mechanical or electrical parts.
4.	Fair not responsible for any lost or stolen articles on brooms.
5.	Brooms may be displayed throughout fairgrounds during Fair.
6.	Enter brooms Monday or Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in the Agricultural Building.
7.	Brooms may be removed at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the Agricultural Building..

SHOEBOX FLOAT

A shoebox float is a small replica of any large float that might appear in a parade. It is made using a shoe or boot box as the base and decorated according to a given theme.

Rules:

1. One entry per exhibitor. Exhibitor must be an OLEY FAIR are resident (see page 10, rule 3 of Oley Valley Community Fair Book).

2. The theme is "Star Struck"

3. Size requirement - The maximum shoe box size is 10" x 16".

4. Material requirements - Grab your glue, scissors, nails, candy - anything you need to make your float a winner. Natural materials are encouraged although any material can be used to cover the float.

5. Judging will be based on use of the theme, creativity, neatness, and materials used.

6. Enter floats Monday or Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in the Oley Valley Fair Centre. Entries may be removed at 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
