Dear Fair Friends:
As we approach the 64th annual Oley Valley Community Fair, I am reminded of a comment that someone said to me last year during the Fair. Their comment was in regards to how this organization has maintained the traditional values of the Fair since the beginning but at the same time has been keeping up with the technological world and implementing procedures that makes the life of volunteers that much easier. I am sure our founders of this Fair never imagined that information about the Oley Fair could be found all year long by just a click of a button. As a reminder, that click of a button would be through "www.oleyfair.org"
Along with some great weather again last year, some record entries and lots of hard work by our volunteers, we had yet another successful Fair. I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting this Fair and showing your appreciation of a job well done by the volunteers.
This year at the Fair, we are very excited to honor a legend from the Oley Valley. Tommy Hinnershitz was born and raised in Oley and became a true icon in the world of Auto Racing. Tommy’s 29 year racing career included three appearances in the Indy 500. As you may have noticed, we have dedicated the front cover of this book to Tommy and will also have some special events in memory of Tommy during our Fair. In response to honoring Tommy, the theme this year at the Fair is “Winner’s Circle at the Oley Fair”.
On a more somber note, this past October we learned of the passing of our very first Oley Fair President, Dr. Bernard Zackon. Dr. Zackon led this great organization from its very first year through 1950. Along with being a Veterinarian in Oley, he dedicated lots of time and energy to what we have today. It is my understanding through his family members that he continued to be extremely proud of the tradition continuing each and every September. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
I look forward to seeing all of you at the 64th annual Oley Valley Community Fair !
Sincerely and in memory of Dr. Bernard Zackon,
Kevin D. Bieber
President
