President's Message

Dear Fair Friends:

The 2011 version of the Oley Fair will celebrate its 65 year anniversary of this great tradition. What an accomplishment for a small town. This celebration will continue to bring the community together for what some call a large reunion.

Since the close of another successful Fair last year, the volunteers have been very busy in many different ways preparing for this Fair as well as future ones. By the request of many of you, the Oley Fair will be selling some special collector items at the Fair. Please see the inside of this book for more information. There is also a committee of Oley Fair and Oley Fire Company volunteers reviewing some options of renovations to our existing French Fry building. Don’t worry, the same great taste of those fries will forever remain, however the look and working environment for our volunteers may change. If approved, this project could start after the Fair this year. Also, if you have the chance, stop by the restrooms on the Fairgrounds and check out the renovations that were recently completed. These renovations were made possible through a contribution from the AMCA group that gathers on our Fairgrounds each April.

New this year will be a contest for all ages to enter. The Decorated Bowling Pin Contest will require you to be creative and find your unique way to decorate a bowling pin. Please see the contest section of this book for more details and make sure you read the entry eligibility requirements for the Oley Fair. Also new this year will be a change in the overflow parking and shuttle bus service. We will no longer park at the Friedens Church on Route 73, instead with the help from our friends at the Reading Motorcycle Club, we will allow traffic to flow back through Jefferson Street, park there and board the shuttle bus for a short quick ride to the Fair. The Reading Motorcycle Club members will show you where to park and help you board the bus.

I am very saddened to report the passing of someone who played a very important role of continuing to bring the school and community together for the annual Fair. Dr. Jeffrey Zackon, Superintendent of our Oley Valley School District passed away in April. Dr. Zackon worked very hard at making sure our Fair and School District worked together in many ways to once again continue having a premier event. Dr. Zackon never lost focus of student, administration and faculty involvement at our Fair. Dr. Zackon was also our Publicity Chairman. He will be missed by all of us.

As we continue to move forward, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers, the sponsors and exhibitors as for without any of you this Fair would not be possible.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the 65th annual Oley Fair !!!!!!!!

Sincerely and in memory of
Dr. Jeffrey F. Zackon
